Old Town Cape Inc. is proud to nominate Tom Higgins for the prestigious Spirit of America award.

Tom Higgins is deserving of the Spirit of America Award because of his gentle, quiet but solid leadership and service toward improving our community.

He is a man of honor and integrity, which shows in his commitment to his beliefs. His leadership skills were built early on as company commander (1st lieutenant) in the 2nd Battalion, 23rd Infantry (1966-1969). Carrying this forward, his strength and presence is felt by those around him and by the organizations with which he works. He is a loyal, selfless, generous person who has impacted our community in important ways.

Tom was an original Old Town Cape Board member and has served in several leadership positions as well as donating accounting services and financial support. He continues today with the same commitment and purpose as he started. He has had a business downtown for over 30 years and embraces the community and its history, staying when others didn't.

At a time in his life when others may slow down, Tom has taken on additional community roles such as the Board and Advocacy Committee of EPIC (Early Prevention Improves Community), where he provides guidance and support to the group in their efforts to positively impact the youth in our community.

Additionally, Tom is and has been involved in other organizations where he is just as steadfast in his service.
