SIKESTON, Mo. -- A boiler malfunction briefly delayed classes for students at the Sikeston Junior High School.
At about 7 a.m. Wednesday, the fire division of the Sikeston Department of Public Safety was called to the school after sparks were seen coming from a boiler in the gym area of the building.
School personnel evacuated the building.
When students began arriving for class, the staff moved them to an area behind the building until it was determined classes could begin inside. Electricity was turned back on, and students and staff were back inside the building around 8:20 a.m., said Sikeston R-6 superintendent Tom Williams.
The boiler will be examined, the superintendent said.
