Southeast Missouri State's Blake Smith finished 14th in the long jump at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships on Friday night.

Southeast Missouri State's Blake Smith finished 14th in the long jump at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships on Friday night.

Smith jumped 23-feet, 5 1/2 inches in the event, which took place at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, N.M.

The junior from Jackson, Mo., entered Friday's competition with a long jump of 25-4 1/2, which ranked 11th nationally. He set that at the Ohio Valley Conference Indoor Championships on Feb. 28.

Jarrion Lawson from the University of Arkansas recorded a jump of 27-6 3/10 to win the event.
