The approvals program, established in 1965, is designed to encourage the best cancer therapy and assure that quality cancer care is being given. Each year Southeast's cancer center treats more than 650 patients.

In addition to meeting requirements for an extensive clinical program, Southeast has also met the commission's requirements for a fully-functioning Tumor Registry. The registry, begun in 1974, now has two certified registrars.
