A cooperative effort between Southeast Missouri State University and Jefferson College will make it easier for students from the Jefferson County area to complete a bachelor's degree in elementary education at Southeast.
Sheila Caskey, interim provost and dean of Graduate Studies and Extended Learning at Southeast, announced the cooperative effort Friday.
Beginning this fall, "Project Access" will bring selected sets of courses in the elementary education program to the Jefferson College campus. Students will take the remaining courses at Southeast by special arrangement.
"We believe that Project Access will nicely dovetail the associate of arts degree at Jefferson with the B.S. in education at Southeast," said Caskey. "Our two institutions have worked closely to make this bachelor's degree more attainable for place-bound students from the Jefferson College area."
Lenore Bierbaum, dean of Southeast's College of Education, said, "We're excited about Project Access because it enables us to better serve the northern portion of Southeast's service area."
The courses to be offered at Jefferson College will include Elementary Block II (fall 1992) and Elementary Block III (spring 1993). Courses to be taught on Southeast's campus will be offered as "Saturday College" courses, or they may be taken during summer sessions.
