The Southeast Missouri State women's softball team swept two games in Florida on Saturday, improving to 3-5 on the season.
The Redhawks beat St. Peter's College 4-0 and Sacred Heart of Connecticut 9-0 in the first day of the five-day Rebel Spring Games. Southeast will play 10 games in the event.
Amy Fahnestock, Stephanie Huffman and Elaine Fisher teamed up for 12 scoreless innings of pitching, while Lindsay Pickering had two hits in each game.
Fahnestock hurled a three-hitter against St. Peter's, walking none and striking out four in seven innings.
The Redhawks scored two runs in the first and two in the sixth. Pickering and Callie Brittan each had two hits. Brittan drove in two runs, and Pickering drove in one.
Against Sacred Heart, Huffman allowed one hit and struck out six in four innings. Fisher pitched the final inning of the Redhawks' five-inning victory.
Huffman also homered in a three-run third inning that propelled Southeast into a 6-0 lead. Megan McDonald also homered in that inning, and Kelly Birk hit a three-run home run in the fourth inning to cap the scoring.
Southeast had 12 hits in the game with Pickering and Victoria Torrez rapping two each. Michelle Summers was 3-for-3.
Southeast plays Cleveland State and Colgate University today.
