Southeast Missouri State University student James Arenz of Cape Girardeau placed second in geology competition in the collegiate division at the 60th annual meeting of the Missouri Academy of Science.
Arenz' paper dealt with the Ste. Genevieve Fault Zone.
The academy meeting was held at Southeast in late April.
