A Southeast Missouri State University student was assaulted and robbed early Wednesday on Broadway near West End Boulevard, police said.
Police received a call at about 3:40 a.m. from the student, who said two men had robbed him, according to Cape Girardeau police Sgt. Barry Hovis.
According to Hovis, the student said he was walking on Broadway to a friend's house when a man walking toward him bumped into him, knocking the student to the ground. Another man punched him in the face as he tried to get up. One of them took his brown tri-fold wallet before both fled on foot south on West End Boulevard.
Hovis said the student had red swelling under his right eye.
The victim told police his wallet contained no cash, but it held debit and credit cards, a student ID and his driver's license.
