A Southeast Missouri State University student died Thursday afternoon at a St. Louis hospital, following a Sept. 9 motor vehicle accident that left the 21-year-old senior in critical condition. Meg Herndon of Fenton, Mo., suffered a severe brain injury when the scooter she was riding was hit by a truck at South Sprigg Street and Normal Avenue. A Southeast Missouri State University student died Thursday afternoon at a St. Louis hospital, following a Sept. 9 motor vehicle accident that left the 21-year-old senior in critical condition.

Meg Herndon of Fenton, Mo., suffered a severe brain injury when the scooter she was riding was hit by a truck at Sprigg Street and Normal Avenue. The driver of the truck, Steven Minner of Morley, Mo., has since been cited for failure to yield and for not wearing a seat belt.

Her death was announced formally by the university Thursday afternoon and on a website that Herndon's family was posting on.

Herndon was a player on the university's soccer team who was studying nursing. Thursday afternoon, Herndon's mother, Cindi, announced that Herndon's rare B-negative blood type is being donated as well as her liver and kidneys.

Funeral arrangements will be announced on the Southeast sports website, GoSoutheast.com, the site reported Thursday.

Thursday afternoon the university also announced this weekend's soccer games will be canceled.
