Southeast regents renew ex-president's lobbying contract

The Southeast Missouri State University Board of Regents approved a new one-year contract with former university president Dale Nitzschke on Friday during a closed-door telephone conference call among board members.

School officials announced the new contract following the meeting.

The new contract, which runs through June 30, 2005, is on the same terms as the previous contract. He will be paid $120,000, plus up to $45,000 in expenses.

Nitzschke, who lives in Ohio and has served as president of the Cape Girardeau university from 1996 to 1999, has worked as a lobbyist for the university for the past five years. Nitzschke has focused on securing federal funding for university projects.

Southeast officials said Nitzschke has been instrumental in obtaining millions of dollars in federal funding.

"He knows how to identify federal programs that are a good fit for the mission of Southeast Missouri State University, and he understands how programs and projects need to be structured and administered to a successful conclusion," said Don Dickerson, president of the board of regents. "We are lucky to have him."
