Recognition of 81 volunteers who have reached service plateaus highlighted Southeast Missouri Hospital's Auxiliary and Volunteer Recognition Dinner held Thursday.
More than 225 people attended, including recipients of two $2,500 nursing scholarships funded through the auxiliary.
Linda Heitman, a clinical nurse specialist and Regional Heart Center coordinator, is working toward her doctorate degree in nursing at St. Louis University.
Lisa Moses, a registered nurse in Southeast's intensive care unit, is pursuing her master's degree in nursing at Southeast Missouri State University.
The service given to Southeast by volunteers is a major investment, said Charlotte Sargent, director of volunteer services.
Southeast's 285 adult auxiliary members and volunteers logged 32,721 hours of service from Aug. 1, 1994 to July 31, 1995.
In addition to coordinating hospital fund-raising activities, volunteers work at the hospital and with Southeast Hospice, Meals on Wheels and the Auxiliary Craft House.
In addition, 121 junior volunteers and 70 student volunteers contributed 1,613 hours of service to Southeast during the past year.
Assistant Administrator Richard Meyer and Sargent presented awards to adult volunteers who attained service milestones.
Top recognition went to Hazel Eaves and Norma Sander of Cape Girardeau, who have each given 10,000 hours of service to the hospital.
An award for 9,000 hours of service was presented to Marie Bacon, and an award was given to Wenona Harrison for 7,000 hours of service. Betty Schoenborn was honored for having attained 4,000 service. All are from Cape Girardeau.
H. Kenneth Wagner of Jackson and Frances Miner were recognized for 3,500 hours of service.
In addition, pins were presented to volunteers whose work milestones ranged from 100 to 3,500 service hours.
Recognized as new life members of the auxiliary were Mary Etta Branum, Loise Elrod, Janice Rice Haas, Helen Hammond, June Owen and Vickie Zickfield.
New officers also were elected at the meeting. They are Rose Cooper, president; Marian LaFoe, vice president; Helen Hammond, recording secretary; Cheri Herbst, corresponding secretary; Jean Devore, treasurer; and Hazel Eaves, co-treasurer. Officers will be installed in January.
