Eight Southeast Missouri State University graduate students and a faculty member will take part in the Counseling Psychology Group Exchange Program with England this semester.
The Southeast students, all pursuing master's degrees in counseling, will leave for London, England, May 14, where they will visit counseling sites and attend seminars at the Roehampton Institute. During their two-week visit, the students will stay with host families in London.
"This program gives students a worldly view of how counseling is done in another culture. They come to know life at the personal level. They also come to know everyday life in an English home," said Ann Johnson, associate professor of counseling at Southeast, who will be accompanying the students on the trip.
In return, eight students and an instructor from the Roehampton Institute are currently visiting Southeast Missouri State for a two-week stay. The English students are being housed with host families in Cape Girardeau.
During their visit, the English students are attending counseling seminars and participating in on-site observations of counselors at the Cottonwood Adolescent Treatment Center, the university's Center for Health and Counseling, the Community Counseling Center, Southeast Missouri Hospital, and the Cape Girardeau Public Schools.
"The purpose of the visit is (for the students) to get a variety of views of counseling in this country," Johnson said.
