Southeast Missouri State University will receive nearly $200,000 from the U.S. Department of Commerce in an effort to promote entrepreneurship and innovation. According to a news release issued by U.S. Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker, Southeast was one of 19 colleges and universities to receive a grant from the 2013 University Center Economic Development Program Competition. The university received $198,987 to help develop a pipeline of entrepreneurs by improving access to capital, creating an exchange of ideas and innovation and promoting opportunities withing the region, the release said. The department provided $2.5 million in grants during the competition to promote American innovation and strengthen regional economies. This year's competition was open to higher education institutions in states supported by agency's Austin, Texas, and Denver, Colo., regional offices.
