Last year, Southeast was also named to the list, which does not rank the schools. The Princeton Review is a company that provides tutoring and test preparation materials. It bases its list criteria on an 80-question student survey, college adviser recommendations and institutional data.

"The university's recently approved new strategic plan calls for Southeast to be the university of first choice for students, for faculty and staff, and for employers in the region who hire our graduates," Southeast president Dr. Ken Dobbins said in a release. "Being recognized by The Princeton Review as one of the 'Best in the Midwest' underscores what we already know about this institution."

In Missouri, 13 other schools were included: Truman State University, University of Central Missouri, Saint Louis University, University of Missouri in Kansas City, University of Missouri in Columbia, Washington University in St. Louis, William Jewell College, College of the Ozarks, Columbia College, Drury University, Missouri State University, Missouri University of Science and Technology, Westminster College.
