The laboratory at Southeast Missouri Hospital has been awarded a two-year accreditation by the Commission on Laboratory Accreditation of the College of American Pathologists, based on results of a recent on-site inspection.
Tony Williams, laboratory director, said Southeast's lab is one of more than 4,600 CAP-accredited laboratories nationwide.
The CAP Laboratory Accreditation Program, begun in the early 1960s, is recognized by the federal government as being equal to or more stringent than the government's own inspection program.
The College of American Pathologists is a medical society serving more than 14,500 physician members and the laboratory community throughout the world.
Williams said that during 1994, Southeast's Lab completed more than 418,500 laboratory tests.
