Athletics, music and movies are among the activities planned for Family Weekend at Southeast Missouri State University on Sept. 27 and 28.
According to a news release from Southeast, the events will be kicked off with the "Houck Filled House" at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 27 in an attempt to break the women's volleyball single-game home attendance record. In addition, the Student Activities Council will present a showing of "Iron Man 3" at 11:30 p.m. at Cape West 14 Cine. Parents may join their student for a free movie and snacks, the release said.
Events on Sept. 28 will include a complimentary continental breakfast at 9 a.m. in the University Center with Southeast president Kenneth Dobbins, and the Charles Hutson Horticulture Greenhouse will hold a Fall Mum Sale Open House from 9 a.m. to noon at 1039 Bertling St., according to the release. Before noon, parents will receive a 10 percent discount at the sale. Also at 9 a.m., Rowdy's Fun Run and family activities will be in the Student Recreation Center North, the release said.
The release said bus tours of the campus and Cape Girardeau will be offered throughout the day, departing from the University Center at 10 a.m., noon and 2 p.m. Activities at the University Center from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. will include magicians, music, campus tours and more. An all-you-can-eat lunch will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Redhawks Market in the University Center, free for students with a Southeast ID and $5 for others, the release said. Another volleyball game, against Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville, is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. in Houck Field House. Adult general admission is $5, and ages 3 to 18 are $3, according to the release.
Football pregame tailgating will be from 4 to 6 p.m. in front of Houck Stadium along Bellevue Street. Free food, drinks, live music and more will be available, and tailgating will be offered in the Alumni Center parking lots, the release said. The football game against the University of Tennessee at Martin is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Houck Stadium. Fans may purchase tickets online at gosoutheast.com. General admission tickets are $8, and reserved bleacher seats are $10; ages 6 to 18 are $5.
