Barry Bernhardt is beginning his 10th year at Southeast Missouri State University where he conducts the Golden Eagles Marching Band, the Southeast Show Band, the University Concert Band, the Studio Jazz Ensemble and the Jazz Lab Band.
How does he find any time for himself? It isn't easy, Bernhardt admits.
This time of year is especially busy as he directs the Southeast Summer Music Camps and is the chairman of the Department of Music Student Recruitment and Retention Committee.
Uppermost in his mind at the moment, however, is the Golden Eagles' performance in August at the Military Tattoo at Edinburgh, Scotland.
Band members are participating in an intensive camp this week in preparation for the trip.
There won't be much time for relaxation when Bernhardt returns. The in-demand clinician, adjudicator, guest conductor, drill designer and consultant for nationally televised events already has a full slate waiting for him.
He has been hired to write the halftime shows for the University of Notre Dame Band and the Alamo, Gator, Liberty, Sugar and Insight.com bowl games for the NCAA.
He will conduct the halftime shows at the nationally televised 1999 Alamo Bowl in San Antonio, Texas, and the 1999 Gator Bowl in Jacksonville, Fla.
