The Summertime Sugar Shaker dinner dance and benefit auction June 15 at the Holiday Inn Convention Center will benefit the Southeast Missouri Chapter of the American Diabetes Association.

A silent auction and cash bar will begin at 7 p.m., and dinner will begin at 8 p.m.

David Hahs will lead the benefit auction after dinner, and the Royale Ballet Company along with Dr. Richard Moore and Friends will provide entertainment.

Theme for the fund-raiser is "And All That Jazz," said Dr. Sarah Aydt, one of the organizers of the benefit auction.

The Southeast Missouri Chapter was established three years ago. The June 15 benefit is the chapter's first fund-raiser, Aydt said.

The American Diabetes Association provides a number of services for diabetics and their families, she said.

"We try to do quite a bit of diabetes education for the public," she said, including providing speakers, information and support group services. In addition, the chapter co-sponsors blood sugar screenings in conjunction with both local hospitals and hosts the Walktoberfest every October to raise money and awareness.
