Several Cape Girardeau streets will be closed for temporary construction projects through the remainder of the week.
The Cape Girardeau Police department issued Wednesday a list of street closings so that motorists could plan alternate routes for travel.
Broadway from Clark to Perry avenues is under construction as part of the Transportation Trust Fund program. Westbound traffic can drive the length of the street but eastbound traffic is being rerouted between Clark and Caruthers.
The traffic detour is expected to remain in place for another month. During some periods of construction, the road might be restricted to one-way traffic. Detours will be posted as necessary.
Other streets to be closed this week are Sprigg Street from William to Morgan Oak, North Street from Frederick to Middle Street, Belleridge Pike entrance onto Lexington Avenue and Sprigg Street from William to Independence.
William Street at the West End Boulevard intersection will likely be closed until noon today. Spanish Street from Themis to Broadway is expected to be open by this evening.
Broadway from Lorimier to Water Street and Water Street from Themis to Broadway were slated to open Wednesday evening.
Next week, road crews will continue work on Sprigg Street from Independence to Broadway and Themis Street from Frederick to Pacific Street. Those streets are expected to be closed from Tuesday through Friday of next week.
Motorists traveling the interstate will notice some improvements at the southbound rest area on Interstate 55 near Marston, Mo.
The rest area will reopen Friday morning but the northbound facility will remain closed for seven weeks for renovation work.
The Missouri Department of Transportation announced the work, which is part of a statewide effort to upgrade rest area facilities.
The Marston rest area information center will be open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day.
Notification signs are posted warning motorists of the construction work and closings.
