Staff Sergeant Jimmy L. Gockel of England AFB, Louisiana, was recently awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal for his performance during Operation Desert Storm.
While serving at King Khalid Air Base, Saudi Arabia, Gockel was a security police squad leader in support of the F-117A Stealth Fighter.
He is the son of Gus and Gisila Gockel of Cape Girardeau and a graduate of Southeast Missouri State University. He has served in the Air Force for over 12 years.
In addition to his commendation medal, Gockel was also awarded the National Defense Medal, the Southwest Asian Medal and the Presidential Unit Citation. He was also selected as the Team Stealth NCO of the month during his deployment in Operation Desert Storm.
