The Sofia Chamber Orchestra with soloist Leland Chen will perform at 8 p.m. Saturday at Academic Auditorium, sponsored by the Community Concert Association.

A Bulgarian ensemble, the orchestra is in the midst of a North American tour, under the direction of conductor Plamen Djurov. Their repertoire of more than 250 works include the Baroque and Romantic, the Vienna classics and the contemporary.

Chen is an internationally-known violinist who first gained recognition in 1983 by taking first prize in the Yehudi Menuhin International Competition. He has also been a featured soloist with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.

Admission to the concert is free for students at Southeast Missouri State University, and through membership in the Community Concert Association. For membership information, contact Dr. Fred Goodwin, 335-8656.
