The City of Jackson is reminding motorists of snow-route designations in effect this winter.
According to the Jackson Public Works Department, a snow-route ordinance adopted in September will be enforced during major snowfalls that warrant a snow-event proclamation. Once a proclamation has been issued, people with vehicles parked on snow routes will have at least 12 hours notice by newspapers, radio or television to move their vehicles to a non-designated snow route -- thus allowing city crews to plow the full width of the street. After the 12-hour notice period, vehicles not moved may be ticketed or towed.
A proclamation will end when the designated street has been cleared and the city notifies newspapers, and radio and television stations.
Snow-routes are:
Broadridge Drive from Orchard Drive to West Independence Street; North Farmington Road, from West Main Street to the city limits; South Farmington Road, from West Main Street to the city limits; Greensferry Road, from North Hope Street to the city limits; North High Street (Highway 61), from Washington Street to the city limits; North Hope Street (Highway 61), from Main Street to Greensferry Road; South Hope Street (Highway 25), from Main Street to the city limits; West Independence Street (Route D), from North High Street to the city limits; Interstate 55, all areas
East Jackson Boulevard (Highway 61), from South Hope Street to the city limits; West Jackson Boulevard (Highways 34 and 72), from South Hope Street to the city limits; East Main Street, from Hope Street to the city limits; West Main Street, from Hope Street to West Jackson Boulevard
North Oak Hill Road, from East Main Street to Oak Ridge Drive; Oak Ridge Drive, from North Oak Hill Road to Ridge Road; South Old Orchard Road, from East Jackson Boulevard to East Main Street; Orchard Drive, from North West Lane to Broadridge Drive; Ridge Road, from North Shawnee Boulevard to Oak Ridge Drive; North Shawnee Boulevard, from East Main Street to Ridge Road; South Shawnee Boulevard, from East Main Street to East Jackson Boulevard; East Washington Street (Highway 61), from North Hope Street to North High Street; and North West Lane, from West Jackson Boulevard to Orchard Drive.
Vehicles parked in the uptown historic district will not need to be moved during snow-event proclamations. Streets not designated as snow routes will be cleared according to the protocol established by the city.
