Due to weather conditions, the Boys and Girls Club of Cape Girardeau has canceled its after-school programming for today. The organization sent out notification using the Southeast Missourian's text alert system.
Moderate snowfall that started early Thursday morning has caused several area schools to cancel classes, but streets in Cape Girardeau remained fairly clear.
According to radio station KZIM-KSIM, Jackson was among the school districts canceling classes. Leopold, Zalma and St. Paul Lutheran School used the Southeast Missourian's text alert system to announce their closures. Other schools closed today, as posted on the radio station website, include Immanuel Lutheran School in Perryville, Perryville and Oak Ridge.
MoDOT's travel map showed roads in the area clear or only partly covered with snow, for the most part, but Interstate 55 was covered with snow starting in Perry County.
