Southeast Missouri State University's "Family Weekend" will focus on "A Celebration of Laughter," highlighted by a performance by the Smothers Brothers.
"We're delighted to have a comedy act of this caliber on campus during Family Weekend," said Dena Self, who heads up the committee planning the campus celebration. "Many of the families of Southeast students grew up with the Smothers Brothers, so we're expecting a lot of enthusiasm for this act."
Tickets for the performance are $18.50 or $35 for both the show and a pre-performance buffet dinner.
The annual event will be held Oct. 8-10. This marks the 15th anniversary of what has become a fall tradition on the Southeast campus.
This year's celebration offers a diverse lineup of entertainment. The weekend kicks off Friday, Oct. 8, at the Show Me Center with country duo Brooks and Dunn. The Grammy Award-winning duo will perform their hit singles, "Brand New Man," "My Next Broken Heart" and "Neon Moon," among others. Tickets are available at the Show Me Center box office.
Governor's scholars and their parents will have an informal continental breakfast at The Club in the University Center from 8:30-9:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 10.
President Kala Stroup will welcome family members at the opening ceremonies in Academic Auditorium at 9:30 a.m. and announce the winner of Southeast's Honorary Parents of the Year. Parents are invited to attend the first-ever Parents Organization meeting in Academic Auditorium at 10 a.m.
At 10:30 a.m. in the Missouriana-Indian rooms at the University Center, the annual minority family weekend program will be held.
At noon, a picnic lunch will be served on Academic Terraces. Tickets are $3 per person. Students with a university 20-meal plan eat for free.
At 2 p.m., the Southeast football Indians will take on the Golden Eagles of Tennessee Tech at Houck Stadium.
A reception with Stroup will begin at 6 p.m. at the Show Me Center.
On Sunday, Oct. 10, a buffet breakfast will be held at the University Center from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Tickets are $2.50 and can be purchased in advance or at the door.
