People are encouraged to join the 30 million Americans who have quit smoking by participating in the Freedom From Smoking clinic sponsored by Southeast Missouri Hospital's Fitness and Wellness Center.
The seven-week clinic will begin Monday, and sessions will be conducted from 7-8:30 p.m. at Southeast's home health office at 760 S. Kingshighway. In addition to Monday's session, clinics will be conducted on Oct. 17, 24 and 31, and Nov. 7, 14 and 21.
Debbie Leoni, director of Southeast's Wellness Center, said the clinic is designated by the American Lung Association and presented by health-care professionals and ex-smokers.
Fee is $50, with $5 refunded to each person who successfully completes the entire course.
Leoni said 85 percent of smokers would like to quit, and a great many have tried at least once. On the average, it takes three tries before one kicks the habit for good.
