Smoke may have contributed to I-55 crash

A three-vehicle crash occurred Tuesday afternoon on Interstate 55 south of Cape Girardeau in the southbound lane.

The accident near mile marker 93 temporarily shut down one lane as crews worked to clear the crash.

Cape Girardeau Fire Department crews were working to put out a brush fire near the interstate about the same time. The heavy smoke from the fire is believed to have contributed to the crash.
