Slick roads have led to school closings and motor vehicle accidents this morning throughout Southeast Missouri.
The Cape Girardeau Police Department reported about 10 accidents in and near the city this morning. The Missouri State Highway Patrol has responded to three accidents today and seven on Tuesday in Bollinger, Cape Girardeau, Scott and Stoddard counties.
Numerous public and private school districts have called off classes for the day. A list can be found by clicking here.
Among those is Cape Girardeau School District, whose administration made the decision around 5:30 a.m.
"The streets around the high school and parking lot were icy," said superintendent Dr. Jim Welker. "We also have a problem getting staff in who travel from out-of-town. So the best decision was for us to call off school."
Today's forecast calls for cloudy skies, with a high near 31 degrees. A slight chance of freezing rain is in the forecast after midnight, with the low around 29.
