Icy roads created multiple accidents on highways Friday, law enforcement agencies reported.
Patches of black ice created accidents from Ste. Genevieve to Cape Girardeau counties Friday evening.
One accident involved a pregnant woman who lost control of her car on Interstate 55. At 7:10 p.m. officers from the Cape Girardeau County Sheriff's Department and the Missouri State Highway Patrol responded to a one-car accident near Fruitland on I-55. The woman's car had left the roadway and traveled 75 feet down an embankment into a creek. She was transported to a hospital by ambulance.
In Jackson, police handled a two-car wreck at the intersection of U.S. 61 and Sunset Street. Although those involved only received minor injuries, a truck was totaled, police said.
One accident in Illinois involving multiple injures was reported on the Grapevine Trail, four miles east of McClure. Two persons were reportedly ejected from the cars.
