DEXTER, Mo. -- The skies over Dexter will be filled next weekend as aircraft of all makes, sizes and models take part in the annual Dexter Air Day.

The annual show is sponsored by the Crowley Ridge Flyers in conjunction with the Dexter Airport Board and is slated to begin early Sunday morning.

An entire day of activities, displays and shows are on tap, and according to event organizers this year's show will be one of the best. All events will be held at the Dexter Municipal Airport and are free.

Tom Love of the Dexter Airport Board said there will be some classic aircraft at the show.

"We will have a P-51 -- World War II's most famous fighter," Love said. "It was the fastest fighter plane built in World War II. It's what practically won the war."

There also will be a B-25 bomber of World War II vintage and a DC-3 with an Ozark Airlines logo.

Other planes to be on hand are the T-28 trainer plane, a Pitts Special aerobatics plane, Swift aerobatics, and "a good chance" for a T-6 trainer plane. In addition, the Stoddard County Sheriff's Department helicopter will be on hand as well as parachutists.

The airport cafe will be open for breakfast on Sunday from 7-10:30 a.m. Airplane rides will be available for purchase from 10 to noon, and the air show will be held from 1-3 p.m.

Additional airplane rides will be available until 5 p.m.
