Cape Girardeau sixth-grade student Quitman McBride III will be the special guest performer tonight when the Cape Girardeau Municipal Band performs at the Capaha Park Bandshell.
The celebrity guest conductor will be Chuck Martin, executive director of the Cape Girardeau Convention and Visitors Bureau.
The program will include "Southerner March," an overture titled "Journey into Diablo Canyon," a Sousa arrangement of "Country Gardens," "Serenata," a Cole Porter medley, "The Thunderer March" and selections from "Cabaret."
Audience members are invited to bring lawn chairs or blankets. The 8 p.m. concert is free.
The band's conductor is Ronald Nall.
The Cape Girardeau Municipal Band will not perform its regularly scheduled concert on July 2, but will perform July 4 in downtown Cape Girardeau at Libertyfest. That concert will begin at 8:15 p.m. The guest performers will be Christopher Goeke and Lori Shaffer.
