Six local girls have been selected to attend Missouri Girls State June 19-25 at William Woods University in Fulton.
Girls State is sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary and is designed to educate young people on the duties, privileges, rights and responsibilities of American citizenship.
The six girls are Jessica Anderson, Tricia Keller, Heather Meyer, Lauren Anne Syler, April Thompson and Jessica Gaydos.
Jessica Anderson is a junior at Central High School, an A honor roll student and a member of the National Honor Society. She serves as the Beta Club vice president and was selected by Who's Who Among American High School Students. She represents the local Breakfast Optimist Club. Her parents are Dave and Jan Anderson.
Tricia Keller is a junior at Central High School, an A honor roll student, a member of the National Honor Society and was named to Who's Who Among American High School Students. She is president of the Beta Club. She represents the Exchangettes Club of Cape Girardeau. Her parents are Keith and Vicki Keller.
Heather Meyer is a junior at Notre Dame High School and is a B honor student. She is a member of SADD and is a Senior Girl Scout. She represents the Optimist Club. Her parents are Thomas M. and Mary E. Meyer.
Lauren Anne Syler is a junior at Central High School. She is a member of the National Honor Society and the Beta Club. She was also named to Who's Who Among American High School Students. She will represent the local Lions Club. Her parents are Bill and Georganne Syler.
April Thompson attends Notre Dame High School and is a member of the National Honor Society, the concert choir and participated in the school musical. She is also a piano accompanist at her church. She is the daughter of Bud and Sharon Thompson and will represent the Rotary Club.
Jessica Gaydos, a junior at Central High School, is active in track, volleyball and basketball. She is also on the B honor roll. Her parents are Bernie and Betsy Gaydos, and she represents the Kiwanis Club.
