Six people in a car were injured Tuesday when the car and a tractor- trailer were involved in an accident on Interstate 55 in Cape Girardeau.

The accident occurred at 6:30 p.m. about one mile north of the Diversion Channel bridge, city police said.

The injured were taken to both Cape Girardeau hospitals. The extent of their injuries was not known late Tuesday.

The driver of the car was Lee Hudson, 24, of Cape Girardeau. The driver of the truck was Jan Orvedal of Fargo, N.D. He was not injured.

Both vehicles were traveling in the southbound lane. Police said the accident occurred when the truck started to pull over after passing and struck the car, causing the driver of the car to lose control.

The car rolled over at least once, landing in the median, police said. None of the passengers in the car was wearing a seat belt.
