CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Pro Arte, the world's oldest continuously existing string quartet, will perform Nov. 13 at Shryock Auditorium on the Southern Illinois University campus.
Pro Arte was first formed in 1912 by a group of Belgian musicians. The group was invited to become artists-in-residence at the University of Wisconsin in 1940 when Germany invaded Belgium.
The quartet's program will include Haydn's String Quartet in D Major, Opus 50, Number 6, also called "The Frog."
The program also will include the most difficult of Bartok's works, the Quartet in A Minor, Opus 17, Number 2.
An additional offering will be Mendelssohn's String Quartet in E Minor.
Tickets are $10 and $12, with a $4 discount for children. Phone (618) 453-ARTS for credit card orders.
