Members of Jackson High School's newspaper and yearbook staffs brought home several awards from the 49th annual Southern Illinois School Press Association (SISPA) Conference recently.
Christin Northdurft took first place for best in-depth newspaper story for the Squawler, while Rachel Warren took first in yearbook feature copy and Kyleigh Maevers in yearbook cover design.
Other Silver Arrow yearbook winners included Jessie Litzelfelner, second place, review writing; Gabe Hartwig, third place, yearbook feature copy; and Laura Lynch, second place, yearbook cover design; Hartwig, third place, yearbook sports copy block; Sara Johnson and Emily Unverferth, honorable mention, yearbook sports copy block; Hartwig, third place, yearbook photo contest; and Lynch and Hartwig, third place, yearbook copy block.
Other Squawler winners included Mindy Meyr, second place, senior interview; Paul Findlay and Pee Wee Bartels, honorable mention; best original advertisement; Maggie Martin, honorable mention, best computer-produced graphic; Ben Martin, honorable mention, best humorous column; Maggie Martin, third place, cub division; and Leslie Hanschen, honorable mention, best editorial column.
This year's contest was one of the largest ever, with over 500 students participating.
