SIKESTON -- A Sikeston woman has been appointed to the Missouri Advisory Council on Historic Preservation.

Janice J. Matthews, a Sikeston real-estate broker, was appointed to the position by Gov. John Ashcroft. Matthews is also a managing partner for a number of family-held interests.

She is the Quality of Life chairperson for the Sikeston Area Development Council, a member of the advisory board of Sikeston Public Schools, a member of the survey committee for the city, and performance co-chairperson for the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra.

"Without a link to our past we have a limited understanding of ourselves," Matthews said. "We need to preserve our historical past and reconcile its importance with our present economic and growth needs."

Matthews' term will expire in November 1994. She holds a bachelor's degree in business administration.
