SIKESTON - The Sikeston Area Chamber of Commerce Springfest '98 opens May 26 on the grounds between the chamber of commerce headquarters and the Sikeston Airport.
Five days of carnival rides, music and games are planned during the annual event, which will run through May 30, said Sue Scott, chamber of commerce marketing director.
In addition to the fun of the midway, area musical groups are being invited to perform in a free talent exhibition each evening.
"This is a chance for individuals or groups to let everyone see a performance," Scott said.
Thursday will feature local gospel entertainment from 6 to 10 p.m., while Friday is set aside for the area country music entertainers from 5 to 11 p.m. Each entertainer or group will be allotted 30 minutes of performance time.
Scott encourages those interested in performing to contact the Chamber office at (573) 471-2498 no later than 5 p.m. May 20.
Tuesday and Thursday evenings will be arm band night for the carnival rides. Arm bands are $9 per person and are available at the chamber of commerce office. Visa and MasterCard will be accepted.
A Saturday matinee will feature all rides priced at $1 from 1-4:30 p.m.
Scott suggested Springfest is an opportunity for non-profit organizations to earn funds by setting up booths during the event. Also political candidates can use the opportunity to meet the public by setting up booths.
Booth space is $25 per night. Reservations for booths can be made by calling the Chamber office.
