SIKESTON, Mo. -- A search warrant executed at a Sikeston home Tuesday led to the arrest of four individuals and a dog attack on a Sikeston officer.

At 8:54 a.m. Tuesday Sikeston's Special Operations Group Team served the warrant at 511 Matthews St. in Sikeston, according to the Sikeston Department of Public Safety. The warrant was obtained after information was gathered by Sikeston's Criminal Investigations Unit and the SEMO Drug Task Force about the possible manufacturing of methamphetamine at the residence.

Upon entry into the residence, the first tactical officer was attacked by a "large, aggressive canine," said Sgt. Jim McMillen, DPS public information officer. The animal lunged at the officer and bit his left forearm. The officer was able to kick the dog away, however, the animal continued to attack. The officer attempted to thwart this attack, but the animal clamped onto his wrist with his teeth. After several attempts to stop the attack, the officer was forced to shoot the animal.

When officers made further entry into the home, they discovered four adults in the residence. Officers located methamphetamine and the precursors for manufacturing meth. Four suspects -- three males and a female -- were taken into custody for possession and attempting to manufacture methamphetamine. They were awaiting charges Wednesday through the Scott County Court.

The dog, an apparent pit bull and boxer mix, was later euthanized due to the wounds it sustained. The officer, who was not injured, was allowed to remain on duty as the initial investigation of the shooting revealed he was justified in his actions, McMillen said.
