Sikeston police investigate early Saturday shooting

SIKESTON, Mo. -- The Sikeston Department of Public Safety is investigating a shooting that occurred early Saturday.

According to department Capt. James McMillen, at 3:40 a.m. authorities were notified of a shooting in the 1300 block of Ann Drive.

"When officers arrived a large crowd was leaving the area in vehicles and on foot," McMillen said.

The victim was found inside the residence at 1307 Ann Drive. According to McMillen, the man, who was not named by authorities, had a gunshot wound to the groin area. He was conscious and alert at the time, McMillen said, and was taken to a hospital for treatment.
