NEW MADRID COUNTY, Mo. - A Sikeston, Mo., man was killed in a motor vehicle accident Wednesday afternoon.
The accident occurred at around 2:52 p.m. on US 61, 5 miles south of Sikeston, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol. A 2003 Dodge driven by Larry L. Traw, 28, of Sikeston was crossing the center line of the roadway and struck a 2006 Dodge Ram driven by Wallace G. Hastings, 40, of Kewanee, Mo., head-on.
New Madrid County coroner Jimmy McSpadden pronounced Traw dead at the scene at 3:50 p.m. Hastings was transported by air evac to Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, where he was treated for serious injuries.
Both vehicles were totaled. The highway patrol said that Traw was wearing a seat belt while Hastings was not.
