A Sikeston, Missouri, man has been found guilty of murdering his wife.
Stevie Lott, 44, was found guilty of second-degree murder, armed criminal action and being a felon in possession of a firearm Thursday during a bench trial in front of Judge Benjamin Lewis in Jackson.
Lott faces up to 30 years in prison on the murder conviction and up to 15 years on the felon in possession of a firearm charge. Lott had three previous felony convictions, so any sentence given by the court will be served at 85 percent of the sentence prior to him being eligible for parole. Sentencing for Lott is set for Oct. 10.
At the trial, Scott County Prosecutor Paul R. Boyd, with assistant prosecutor Zachary Horack, produced evidence that on Sept. 12, 2013, Lott called 911 about 3 a.m. and reported his wife had been shot at 413 John R. Blvd. in Sikeston. When officers arrived, they found Lott had left the home, leaving his wife, Nyketia “Trece” Lott, 27, on the floor of their bedroom and a 2-year-old child asleep in his toddler bed. Trece Lott was pronounced dead at the scene by the coroner. Evidence indicated Trece Lott was shot in the back of the head on the bed.
Stevie Lott testified he remembered his hand was on his gun and it accidentally went off.
“This case is an example of the greatest fear related to domestic violence, that being the murder of a family member,” Boyd said. “The death of Trece at the hand of Mr. Lott is devastating to both the victim’s family, the family members of the defendant and the community inclusive of neighbors, friends and our first responders who have to work these unnecessary events.”
