SIKESTON -- Work ended earlier this month on the newest Interstate 55 interchange in Scott County. Highway officials plan to celebrate the opening Tuesday with a special ceremony.
The Route HH-Interstate 55 interchange has been a two-year project for the Missouri Department of Transportation that cost more than $6 million.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the interchange.
Speakers at the ceremony include Scott Meyer, district engineer for MoDOT, Sen. Peter Kinder, Rep. Peter Myers, representatives from the offices of U.S. Sens. Christopher Bond and John Ashcroft and U.S. Rep. Jo Ann Emerson.
The project included a new east-west route just north of Miner and Sikeston along Interstate 55. Work on the interchange began in 1998 and included replacing a bridge and widening and resurfacing those roads.
