BENTON, Mo. -- A Sikeston, Mo., doctor was arrested after allegations surfaced that he touched patients inappropriately and made sexually suggestive comments in person and through text messages.

Rajesh Malhotra, 45, was charged with deviate sexual assault and three counts of first-degree sexual misconduct, according to a news release from the Scott County Sheriff's Office.

An investigation of Malhotra began last week after one of his female patients contacted authorities and reported Malhotra touched her in an inappropriate manner and sent her sexually related text messages. A second victim then reported Malhotra touched her in a sexual manner and made sexually related suggestions to her during an examination, according to the release.

Additional criminal charges are likely, according to the department, since investigators are in the process of meeting with 12 more potential victims.
