CHARLESTON, Mo. -- A suspect in an assault that occurred last week in Sikeston turned himself in to Charleston, Mo., authorities Friday.

Montia McCauley, 36, of Charleston now faces charges of first-degree domestic assault, two counts of first-degree assault, burglary and three counts of armed criminal action.

Around 11 p.m. Thursday, Sikeston police responded to an address in the 800 block of Ruth Street for a report of a disturbance, according to Sgt. Jim McMillen, spokesman for the Sikeston Department of Public Safety.

Upon arrival they discovered a 25-year-old woman had been assaulted and severely injured. She was transported to an area hospital and treated for her injuries.

Two other people in the house were assaulted as well and suffered minor injuries from the incident.

Charleston police placed McCauley in custody around 4:45 p.m. Friday. Bond was posted at $200,000 cash only.

The 25-year-old victim remains in critical condition, McMillen said.

Sikeston investigators plan to interview McCauley about the incident.
