Teams from Wentzville, Benton, Ill. and Sikeston captured top honors in the 12th annual Chemistry Bowl held Thursday on the Southeast Missouri State University campus.

Approximately 190 students representing 28 schools participated.

The competition consisted of a 35-question multiple choice test and two laboratory exercises.

The experiments were acid based titration and qualitative analysis determination.

Contestants were divided into small and large school categories.

The top scoring schools in the large school division were Wentzville, Benton Consolidated of Benton, Ill., and Sikeston.

The top three small schools were Valle of Ste. Genevieve, Malden R-I and Portageville.

Winner of the Chemistry Bowl scholarship was Justin Prince of Jackson. Winner of the one-year award was Kelly Hoog of Valle of Ste. Genevieve High School.

Individual winners in the large school division were Derek Fung, Benton Consolidated, Benton, Ill., first place; Eric Baker, Sikeston, second place; Joy Lewis, Jackson, third place; Yung Park, Cape Central, fourth place; Rick Padgett, Wentzville, fourth place; Adam Lorenz, Jackson, sixth place; Laura Hoover, Wentzville, seventh place; Erin Goss, Rolla, eighth place; Becky Kelley, Dexter, eighth place; Andrew Hall, Wentzville, eighth place; Craig Minarich, Francis Howell, eleventh place; Stefanie Arndt, Sikeston, eleventh place; Adam Sibley, Rolla, eleventh place; Brandy Dallas, Festus R-6, eleventh place; Wes McClelland, Festus R-6, eleventh place; Matt Miller, Festus R-6, eleventh place; Yoon Chai, Clayton, eleventh place.

Individual winners in the small school division were Kelly Hoog, Valle of Ste. Genevieve, first place; Michelle Viox, Valle of Ste. Genevieve, second place; Chris Molitor, Valle of Ste. Genevieve, third place; Laura Jokerst, Valle of Ste. Genevieve, fourth place; Patrick Forhan, Valle of Ste. Genevieve, fifth place; Kathy Boyer, Valle of Ste. Genevieve, sixth place; Kristen Jokerst, Valle of Ste. Genevieve, seventh place; Jeremy Farr, Malden R-I, eighth place; Shaundra Lively, Malden R-I, ninth place; Staci Heberlie, Valle of Ste. Genevieve, tenth place; Amy Laferney, Malden R-I, eleventh place; Billy Bob Hampton, Malden R-I, twelfth place.

The Chemistry Bowl program is under the direction of Mike Readnour of the chemistry department at the university.
