A Thursday morning fire was the cause of considerable damage to a house in Jackson.
According to Captain Tyson Medlock of Jackson Fire Rescue, the call for a fire at 1178 Highland Drive was received at about 3:40 a.m. Fire crews arrived at the address to battle the house fire, which was strongest in the basement but had also spread to the attic and roof. The blaze was quickly extinguished, but there was major fire damage to the basement and minor fire damage to the attic and roof. Smoke damage also was prevalent throughout the house, but the structure isn't considered a total loss, Medlock said.
The cause of the fire is undetermined, but Medlock believes it originated in the basement. The house was vacant at the time of the fire, Medlock said.
