The St. Louis Unit of Shriners Hospitals for Crippled Children has been caring for the special needs of more than 45,000 orthopaedically handicapped children for over 65 years. It is part of a network of 22 Shriners Hospitals that include 19 orthopaedic hospitals and three institutes for the treatment of burned children.

She has earned a master degree in hospital administration from the University of Houston, and has served for several years as a nurse in the U.S. Navy. She is an active member of the St. Louis Rotary Club.
