A man accused of shooting another man in the stomach will not be getting a reduction in his $250,000 cash or surety bond.

Tommy Joe Davis III first requested the reduction last year, along with filing a motion for continuance in his trial.

Circuit Judge Michael Gardner denied the former request and granted the latter Tuesday, setting a pretrial conference for Feb. 1 in Jackson and Davis' trial for Feb. 9 in Cape Girardeau.

Davis was charged with first-degree assault and armed criminal action in June 2014, after an early morning shooting left a victim seriously injured. The man allegedly answered his door and was shot in the abdomen.

The shooting happened about 5 a.m. June 4, 2014, at 523 Olive St. in Cape Girardeau and might have been because of a love triangle among Davis, the victim and Davis' girlfriend, according to reports.

The morning of the shooting, a SWAT team surrounded an Amblewood Drive duplex for hours after witnesses directed police there.

Police knew people were inside the duplex, where Davis lived, but after nearly six hours, two young men finally emerged from the home and revealed Davis was not there.

Police questioned the men -- acquaintances who had stayed with Davis -- but did not charge them after determining they were not trying to help him.
