A Cape Girardeau man was booked and released on his own recognizance Sunday on suspicion of unlawful use of a weapon and property damage after two stray bullets were fired into a Millersville area home.
Lt. David James of the Cape Girardeau Sheriff's Department said no one was injured, but two children and their parents were in the home at the time of the incident, which occurred around midday Sunday.
The suspect, whose name was not released, was shooting a rifle near the home on Route BB, James said. He did not know how far apart the homes were, but said the neighbor's house was "some distance away."
The children were playing the living room when the bullets went in the house and struck a chair and a wall, he said.
The man was released pending a review by the prosecutor for charges. James said it doesn't appear to be an intentional act.
"It is reported to be an accident," he said.
