WOLF LAKE, Ill. -- Shawnee Community School District 84 will open for classes Tuesday.
The start of classes for the district, which encompasses part of three Southern Illinois counties Union, Alexander and Jackson has been delayed by the flood.
The district includes elementary schools in McClure and Grand Tower, and a junior/senior high school south of Wolf Lake.
Students will attend school for a short session Tuesday, noted District 84 superintendent Wilmer Nall. Dismissal is planned for about 9:45 a.m. at elementary schools and 10 a.m. at the high school.
The first full day of school will be Wednesday.
Nall said a number of roads in the school district remain closed.
"We expect the student count to be down by as much as 10 percent for a while," he said. "Buses won't able to run along a number of roads in the Reynoldsville and Gale areas and the Ware and Wolf Lake areas. If students can make it to Route 3, we'll pick them up."
