The award was presented to the college for organizing a new community service program entitled, "Today's Kids -- Tomorrow's Leaders, A Week of the Young Child Celebration." The two-day multicultural program was present on the college campus April 21 and 22 to celebrate the Week of the Child.

The program was organized by the Shawnee Community College Adult Education/Literacy staff including Tim Bellamey, Pam O'Connor, Kristin Barrington, Judith Lewis and Carol Pounds.
